BASI GAP Year Nendaz - Testimonials

Charlie Mc Donald I enjoyed the course very much, in particular the sense of being included as part of the team in the ski school. The training was excellent as we had regular technical input from 4 of the top full-cert instructors in the ski school. The shaddowing was also very benefical as we could observe and particpate in classes of all levels form very young kids to high end adult classes and we were even given the opportunity to teach for a little while during some of the lessons. The social life was really good and I particulary enjoyed the many party nights in the Cactus Bar and the Sunday night jam session at the Canadain Bar. Nendaz was a great place to do a gap course as it had a very relaxed and open atmosphere. It was very easy to get to know people and to be involved in whatever was going on. Everything was centrally located including our accomadation and the resteraunt where we ate every night which made life very easy. The best part though was the skiing with plenty of snow and sunshine and easy access to a wide variety of high quality terrain that made it perfect for training. All in all I had a great time. |

Christopher Vaughan You may not have heard of Nendaz. The neighbouring resort of Verbier is a more familiar destination for UK tourists but in fact all the best skiing in the 4 Valleys is in the Nendaz commune so Nendaz actually has some of the best skiing on and off piste in Europe. It's awesome and it's much less crowded than the Verbier area so it doesn't get tracked out in a morning. Nendaz itself is a smallish resort which means you will become a part of the community quickly and get invited to everything so you end up really feeling you belong. Neige Aventure is a very international ski school with instructors from Europe, Latin America and Australia. The school has featured on Swiss television and newspapers because of its innovative approach to teaching. I did my gap course here in 2004 and have worked at Neige Aventure each season since then. 3 people from my course have been working here in Nendaz with me since then. Can't think of a better recommendation. |

Lucy Oldham Three years ago I decided to complete a ski GAP course with BASI and chose Nendaz because I liked the sound of the ski area and also the resort. I was also attracted by the opportunity to improve my French and by the possibility of finding work with Neige Aventure, the Nendaz ski school affiliated to BASI. I wasn't disappointed as Nendaz is a small resort where it's easy to get to know people, but with access to the vast 4 Vallées ski area. After the course I was invited to return the following season to work for Neige as a ski instructor and I am currently here again enjoying my second season. The BASI course itself was a great experience, with superb training. The weeks of shadowing were also invaluable, as I was able to join various ski instructors and see exactly what goes on during lessons - the good and the bad! On going training is also provided during this time, from a BASI qualified instructor who also acts as a kind of mentor. This was great because I had a main point reference and support. The accomodation was really nice, as were the meals provided at the Cantina restaurant everynight. Below the restaurant is the Cactus bar, where most of the social life takes place, so we were always in the right place to enjoy a few drinks after a long day on the slopes. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the course in Nendaz, even if it's just to improve your skiing, meet new people and enjoy new experiences. It can be tough at times, especially in the final two weeks of training, so it's important to be as fit as possible before you arrive. My only other advice is to always be open minded, positive and keen to take on new ideas, on and off the slopes. Oh, and of course, to have fun! Lucy Oldham BASI level 1 & 2 |

Michael Reeves The tuition received was 1st class. The organisation of our performance lessons was brilliant. Every one in our group knew exactly where to meet and at what time. We also knew before each session, what area of our own skiing performance we would be focusing on. The tutor (Alexandro) was very approachable and made all training very engaging and enjoyable. He must have been good because he got 100% of his students through with a pass! Although we were are trainee instructors we were all made to fill part of the Neige team. It was always clear who we would be shawdowing and what level of lesson it was. All the instuctors which I shawdowed allowed me to take a fair percentage of the lesson and then at the end of the lesson I would get decent feedback on how I managed. I think that this was very important as it help improve my teaching skills. Off course the Apres Ski is high up the list for any skier and Nendaz does not disappointant. There are some very good drinking holes around the area and people are always friendly and welcoming. It is a place which I would recommend to any one and a place I will be return to for many years. I fill that my time spent in Nendaz went too quickly. I have so many good memories about my season spent in Nendaz, simplly because of the friendly instructors are the whole Nendaz ski area. |

Graeme Seddon I loved doing the course in Nendaz! I am so glad the Zermatt course was cancelled because after being to both resorts would pick Nendaz everytime!! Alessandro was the perfect mentor, even though he had his eurotest to consider, he still gave us all of his time and would still be doing our skis at midnight for the next day! Everyone at Neige was amazing as well, from everyone in the shop to the rental shop and the cantina were so nice to us, very welcoming! The shadowing was a really good experience to have, whether they were BASI or not!! and to be honest there was that much training that shadowing a BASI, I would say is not is not a neccessity. I would now say that equal with Courchevel, Nendaz is the best resort that I have skiied in. I was gutted that I hadn't been able to get back to Nendaz this season due to university! But hopefully will be back next season when university gets a little easier! Kind reagrds Graeme Seddon |
